Layer Mask

Layer Mask are quite often used to hide pixels, but can also be used to mask the result of an adjustment layer. In this case we are going to use it to hide part of the ring.

With the ring layer selected click on the mask button.

The ring layer is now covered with mask layer. Please note that mask layer doesn’t have any pixels and thats the reason why the ring is still visible.

Before we proceed make sure that the mask layer is selected.

From the tools bar select the brash and paint the part of the ring that needs to become invisible. Make sure that the colour used to paint over is black. Black colour hides the pixels like in the image below.

Masking

To make the ring fit better select free transform from the menu bar and repeated the previous step to hide any necessary pixels.

The final result should look like the image below.
